- They're served in mini plastic jello shot cups, making them simple to enjoy while mixing and mingling at parties.
- These fun jello shots are portion controlled, so you don't have to worry about guests over-indulging and helping themselves to open wine bottles throughout the night.
- You can use any colored sprinkles, colored sanding sugar, or edible glitter to match the theme of your celebration.
- No shot glasses = less dishes at the end of the night!
🍾 Ingredient notes
- Lemon juice – description of what it is/how it is used with affiliate link where possible
- Simple syrup – use this simple simple syrup recipe on the blog. You can make a batch for the whole week to use in other cocktails, to sweeten iced tea or coffee, or to help moisten cakes!
- Gelatin – This recipe calls for two (1-ounce) envelopes of unflavored gelatin. Be sure to use the unflavored gelatin for the classic Champagne jello shot.
- Champagne – for authentic champagne jello shots, use one cup of champagne. Only real champagne made in the traditional method in the Champagne region of France can legally be called Champagne. You don't have to buy expensive Champagne or the best Champagne – any bottle will do! You can, of course, substitute any sparkling wine that you fancy. We love sparkling wines from Gruet, Graham Beck, and Argyle Winery.
- Vodka – simply 1/4 cup of vodka adds a bit of depth to the flavor. You can also leave out the vodka completely and add more champagne, or more lemon lime soda
- Lemon Lime Soda (not pictured) – a splash of your favorite lemon-lime soda, like 7-Up, bumps up the citrus flavor. Alternatively, you could use ginger ale instead.
- Edible decorations – we use edible gold glitter stars for our jello shots. They look so fun and festive, especially for New Year's Eve! But you can use any other edible glitter or sprinkles.

🥂 Recipe FAQs
You can either use Champagne or your favorite sparkling wine. Be sure it's a high quality sparkling wine that you love to drink on its own, since the flavor is pronounced in the jello shots.
Can We make non-alcoholic jello shots?Sure! Substituting non-alcoholic sparkling apple cider, lemon lime soda, sparkling lemonade, white grape juice, or even ginger ale for the Champagne can be a great way to make them alcohol-free.
How do We decorate jello shots? If using regular circular edible sprinkles, you can sprinkle them into the jello shots after about 10 minutes of chill time. This way the sprinkles can float down into the jello shots for a pretty overall sprinkle effect.
If you are using edible glitter stars or other specific shapes, like we did in the photos, wait to sprinkle them until after the jello shots have completely chilled. This way, they keep their shape! If you sprinkle them in too soon, the glitter spreads and loses shape.
Want to enjoy some of these after your New Year's celebration the next day? Simply store them in an airtight container in the refrigerator. They'll keep for up to two days.
🍽 Serving ideas
