Brie and Pear Appetizers: The Perfect Party Bite
These brie and pear appetizers with flaky baked brie are perfectly portioned for party finger foods. The sweet pear pairs perfectly with the creamy brie cheese, creating a delectable bite-sized treat that is sure to impress your guests.

Ah, puff pastry – a baker’s best friend. Its versatility and ease of use make it a staple for creating both sweet and savory dishes. Let’s explore some of the ways to use puff pastry to make great appetizers and desserts:
- Butternut Squash, Mushroom, and Sage Hand Pies: These savory hand pies are packed with earthy flavors, making them a wonderful vegetarian option for any gathering.
- Crab and Mushroom Triangles: A sophisticated appetizer that combines the richness of crab meat with the umami of mushrooms, all encased in a flaky puff pastry shell.
- Apple Whiskey Hand Pies: For a sweet treat, these hand pies offer a delightful combination of apple and whiskey flavors, perfect for a cozy evening.

After attending a puff pastry party, I was inspired to create something special with the fresh puff pastry I brought home. That’s how these irresistible Brie and Pear Appetizers were born! The combination of creamy brie, sweet pears, and flaky pastry is simply divine.

Puff pastry truly feels like magic in the kitchen. It’s incredibly easy to work with, especially when compared to the more finicky phyllo dough. You can create all sorts of fun shapes and sizes, making it ideal for a wide variety of recipes.

For this recipe, I used a scalloped circle pastry cutter, similar to double-edged biscuit pastry cutters. These cutters are fantastic for creating mini hand pies, cookies, and even for cutting cheese into cute shapes. Their versatility makes them an essential tool in any baker’s kitchen.
While I’ve mostly transitioned to a dairy-free lifestyle, I simply cannot resist brie. It’s a go-to when entertaining because there’s something inherently comforting about serving a sweet, melty wedge of brie. And when brie is baked inside puff pastry, it’s always a guaranteed success. Paired with slightly tart pears, a sprinkle of cinnamon sugar, and a drizzle of honey, these appetizers are absolutely delightful!

When making these brie and pear appetizers, you can adjust the filling to your liking. The amount of filling shown in the photos provides a generous portion without causing the pastry to overflow during baking. Feel free to add as much or as little brie and pear as you prefer.
Let’s be honest: some of the most delicious food isn’t always the most photogenic. So, go ahead and load up those puff pastries with as much brie and pear filling as your heart desires! Don’t be afraid to get creative and experiment with different amounts. I won’t stop you from pursuing your overstuffed puff pastry dreams, my friends.

I also adore this shape because it’s just so darn cute! Creating a decorative edge with the tines of a fork is both visually appealing and functional, helping to seal the tops and bottoms of the pastries together. I’ve made these appetizers several times, including for our most recent Christmas dinner, and they always disappear quickly.
Brie and Pear Appetizers Recipe
These brie and pear bites are the perfect size for party appetizers. The sweetness of the pears blends beautifully with the lovely brie for this bite-sized indulgence!
Ingredients:
- 1 package of puff pastry, thawed
- 6 ounces brie wedge, cut into thin 1-inch slices
- 1 pear, peeled, cored, and sliced thinly
- 1 tablespoon honey
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 2 tablespoons sugar
Instructions:
- In a small bowl, mix cinnamon and sugar together until well blended. Set aside.
- Preheat oven to 375 degrees F (190 degrees C).
- Prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper and set aside.
- Roll out the thawed puff pastry dough onto a lightly floured surface. Use a small pastry or cookie cutter in the shape of your choice (about 2-inch circles).
- Place half of the puff pastry rounds onto the prepared baking sheet, about 2 inches apart. Set aside the remaining half to use as the tops.
- Top each puff pastry round with 3-5 slices of pear, just enough to cover the surface while leaving a small amount of puff pastry empty around the edges.
- Then top each puff pastry round with a few slices of brie.
- Sprinkle cinnamon sugar mixture over each.
- Top each round with one of the remaining cut pieces of puff pastry, gently pressing down around the edges to seal the brie and pear bites.
- Using the edge of a fork, gently press along the edges of each puff pastry bite to fully seal.
- Using a knife, cut a small opening in the middle of the top of each puff pastry bite.
- Drizzle a small amount of honey over each puff pastry bite. Be careful not to douse the bites with honey, as it will caramelize and burn if you use too much. Just a light drizzle is enough.
- Bake at 375 degrees F (190 degrees C) for about 18-21 minutes, or until golden brown.
- Remove from oven and allow to cool for 5 minutes before serving.

Now, let’s conduct an informal poll: Do you make your own puff pastry from scratch, or do you use pre-made puff pastry? I’m definitely a fan of the convenience of packaged puff pastry, but I admire those who make their own from scratch!
