Spice up your hot coffee with some cinnamon whipped cream and a whisky kick! This Winter Warm-Up is the perfect Winter Bourbon Cocktail!

We woke up to a winter wonderland as the kids screamed with excitement, “It’s snowing! SNOW! OMG SNOW!!!!” We quickly bundled up in our snow gear and rushed outside to enjoy the fleeting beauty before it melted.
But it didn’t melt! It stuck, and then it snowed even more! Enough snow fell for epic snowball fights and exhilarating sledding adventures down our hilly street. It felt like a true Last Day of Winter Break miracle!
In celebration of our temporary winter paradise, I’m sharing a winter bourbon cocktail that’s guaranteed to warm up those (grown-up) frozen fingers and toes. Get ready to embrace the cozy vibes!
What Makes This Different from Irish Coffee?

Some might mistake this for an Irish Coffee, but technically, an authentic Irish Coffee must be crafted with Irish Whiskey, such as Jameson, Bushmills, or Michael Collins. While my bar boasts a variety of whisky options, I currently don’t have any Irish Whiskey on hand. For this recipe, I used Bulleit Bourbon Frontier Whiskey.
Therefore, this delightful hot coffee cocktail goes by a different name, one that I believe is more fitting for its purpose: the Winter Warm-Up! It’s all about embracing the warmth and comfort during those chilly winter days. 🙂
Choosing the Right Coffee for This Cocktail

To create the perfect Winter Warm-Up, you’ll want to start with a coffee that is medium- or full-bodied, ideally a dark roasted variety. A light-bodied coffee, like a Blonde roasted style, will be too delicate and weak to stand up to the bold flavor of the whisky.
A medium- to full-bodied coffee, on the other hand, will complement the richness of the whisky beautifully. The robust coffee flavor will create a harmonious balance with the bourbon, resulting in a truly satisfying and warming cocktail.
Don’t Forget the Cinnamon Whipped Cream!

You can easily make your own whipped cream by whipping together heavy cream and sugar. For an extra layer of flavor that perfectly complements the Winter Warm-Up, I recommend adding a dash of cinnamon to the cream while whipping.
The cinnamon stick isn’t just for decoration, either. I like to use a cinnamon stick to stir the bourbon and coffee mixture. This allows the flavors of the whisky and coffee to meld together beautifully, while also adding a subtle hint of cinnamon to the liquid itself.
I’m a huge fan of cinnamon, so I find this step to be essential! However, if you prefer a more traditional approach, you can certainly skip that part and use a regular spoon or cocktail stirrer.
