One of the greatest joys of living in Oregon is the bountiful harvest of summer berries. After moving to the edge of Oregon wine country a decade ago, I wholeheartedly embraced the neighboring farms. The kids and I have been avid berry pickers since they were old enough to walk, as many of you have seen on this blog over the years. Hood strawberries are undeniably exceptional, but the Oregon Marionberry is the crowning glory that deserves national recognition.
The Oregon Marionberry, a tart and juicy cousin of the blackberry, thrives in Oregon during the summer months (and can still be found in some stores as we transition into fall). However, recognizing its limited availability elsewhere, even in stores, blackberries can be readily substituted in this cocktail recipe. Nevertheless, if you can acquire marionberries, seize the opportunity! Marionberries elevate this cocktail to an unparalleled level of deliciousness!

In addition to marionberries, Oregonians have also developed a growing fondness for local ciders. With approximately a dozen cideries currently operating in Oregon, I chose to use Square Mile’s Hopped Apple Cider, based in Portland, for this recipe. The cider’s crisp and slightly hoppy notes complement the sweetness of the marionberries perfectly. You can use your favorite local brand.

To complete this cocktail masterpiece, simply incorporate your preferred brand of vodka and lemonade. The vodka adds a subtle kick, while the lemonade provides a refreshing tang.

With a blend of marionberries, apple cider, vodka, and lemonade, you’ve captured Oregon in a glass! This vibrant cocktail embodies the state’s rich agricultural heritage and the spirit of local craftsmanship.
The Oregon Marionberry/Blackberry Cider Crush is a symphony of sweet and rich berry flavors. It’s an excellent choice for celebrating the culmination of your summer adventures. It offers a vibrant taste experience and is sure to impress.

Tips and Variations
- **Berry Variety:** While marionberries are the star, don’t hesitate to experiment with other berries like raspberries or blueberries for a unique twist.
- **Cider Selection:** Choose a cider that complements your taste preferences. A dry cider will balance the sweetness of the lemonade, while a sweeter cider will enhance the overall sweetness of the cocktail.
- **Vodka Alternatives:** If vodka isn’t your spirit of choice, consider using gin or white rum for a different flavor profile.
- **Lemonade Substitute:** For a less sweet option, try using sparkling water with a squeeze of fresh lemon juice.
- **Make it a Mocktail:** Skip the vodka entirely and increase the amount of cider and lemonade for a refreshing non-alcoholic version.
- **Spice it Up:** Add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg for a warm, seasonal touch.
- **Garnish Galore:** Get creative with your garnishes! Add a sprig of mint, a slice of apple, or a sugared rim for an extra touch of elegance.
