Key Ingredient Notes for Pork Chops and Rice

The ingredients pictured above are essential to creating this delicious Instant Pot pork dish. Here are some important considerations for a few key components:
- Pork Chops: For the best results, use bone-in pork chops. The bone adds flavor and helps keep the meat moist. While boneless pork chops can be used, you might need to adjust the cooking time.
- Rice Selection: While many rice varieties can be used, jasmine rice and long-grain white rice tend to work best. Brown rice generally requires a slightly longer cooking time in the pressure cooker.
- Paprika: A teaspoon of paprika adds a subtle smokiness and a hint of warmth to the dish. For those who prefer a spicier flavor, a dash of chili powder can be added as well.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Instant Pot Pork Chops and Rice
Follow these easy step-by-step instructions to create flavorful and tender pork chops with perfectly cooked rice, all in one pot!

- Thoroughly season the pork chops on both sides with paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper. Place seasoned chops on a plate and set aside.
- Turn on your pressure cooker and select the SAUTÉ or SEAR/SAUTE function. Once the pot is sufficiently heated, pour in the olive oil.

- Place the pork chops in the pot and sear for approximately 2-3 minutes on each side, until browned. Remove the pork chops from the pot and set aside on a plate.
- Pour chicken broth or water into the pot.

- With a wooden spoon, scrape any browned bits from the bottom of the pot to deglaze it and add flavor.
- Add the rice to the pot and gently stir to ensure it is submerged in the liquid.

- Lightly spray two pressure cooker racks with cooking spray. Place one rack over the rice, then arrange two pork chops on top. Position the second rack above the first, placing the remaining two chops on top. See the “NOTES” section for helpful tips.
- Secure the pressure lid, ensuring the pressure release valve is in the SEAL position. Select PRESSURE or MANUAL, set to HIGH, and program the cooking time to 6 minutes. Press START/STOP or START to begin the cooking process.
The pressure cooker will take a few minutes to build pressure, then commence cooking and counting down. When the cooking is complete, allow a natural pressure release for 6 minutes. After 6 minutes, perform a Quick Release by carefully moving the pressure release valve to the VENT position. After all pressure has been safely released and the float pin has fully dropped, carefully open the lid.
Use tongs or oven mitts to carefully remove the racks from the electric pressure cooker and plate the pork chops. Fluff the rice with a fork before serving. See the full recipe below for all the details.
Recipe FAQs
- Can I cook this without putting the pork on racks?
- While technically feasible to place the pork directly on the rice, it’s not recommended. Utilizing a Ninja Foodi rack, Instant Pot rack, or even egg racks is beneficial. These elevate the pork above the rice, ensuring even cooking and preventing mushiness.
- How do I know when pork is done cooking?
- Pork is considered fully cooked when a thermometer inserted into the thickest part of the meat registers an internal temperature of 145°F (63°C).
- What do I do if my pork isn’t cooked when pressure cooking is done?
- The provided timing should be appropriate for four average-sized bone-in pork chops. However, actual cooking time can differ depending on the thickness and general size of the pork chops. If you find the pork isn’t at 145°F after pressure cooking, take the rice out of the pot. Then, turn the electric pressure cooker to sauté mode, add a tablespoon of olive oil, and sauté the pork chops until fully cooked.
- What’s the best way to store leftovers?
- Allow the pork and rice to cool fully. Then, store them separately in airtight containers in the refrigerator for up to 3-4 days.
Kitchen Tools and Equipment for Instant Pot Pork Chops and Rice
This recipe can be made in either a 6-quart or 8-quart electric pressure cooker.
I’ve prepared this dish in my 8-quart Ninja Foodi Deluxe XL Pressure Cooker as well as my 8-quart Instant Pot Duo pressure cooker. Do NOT attempt this recipe in a mini or 3-quart pressure cooker as it may not have the required capacity.
You will also need two racks to elevate the pork chops. I utilize my Ninja Foodi Deluxe Reversible Racks or these Instant Pot racks, which fit nicely inside the Instant Pot.
Serving Suggestions for Instant Pot Pork Chops and Rice

What I appreciate about this recipe is that it’s a complete one-pot meal. But you can enhance the dish with some extra vegetables to make it more balanced!
While the pork chops and rice are pressure cooking, consider preparing a side of Air Fryer Broccoli, Garlic Rosemary Roasted Glazed Carrots, or Mushroom Marsala.
Wine Pairings with Pork Chops and Rice
Consider serving pork chops and rice with either a Pinot Noir or a Beaujolais. These light-bodied red wines are a great complement to lighter meats like pork.
