How to Make Starburst Pretzel Flags: A Step-by-Step Guide

Another fun and incredibly EASY party trick for the big game: Starburst pretzel flags. These colorful treats are perfect for adding a festive touch to your Super Bowl spread.
I first made these about 15 years ago (long before blogs and social media!) for my first Super Bowl party cake. Now, my kids love making them too! They’re a great activity to get the whole family involved in preparing for the big game.

Making these creative football desserts is SO easy! Here’s how:
- Unwrap the Starbursts you want to use as flags and place them on a microwave-safe plate. We like to use a variety of colors for a rainbow effect, but you can also select colors based on your favorite team for a personalized touch.
- Microwave the Starburst pieces for about 15 seconds. Keep a close eye on them, as they can quickly become too soft.
- As soon as you take the Starburst pieces out of the microwave, work quickly: slightly flatten the Starburst with your fingers. Be careful, as they will be warm! Then, use kitchen shears to cut out flag shapes. You can create billowy, windy flag shapes or simple triangle flags, as shown here.
- While the Starburst pieces are still warm and pliable, gently press one side of the Starburst against the edge of a pretzel stick. Use your fingers to gently press the edges slightly around the pretzel stick to help it adhere better.
- Repeat with the remaining Starburst candies and pretzel sticks until you have a whole batch of colorful flags!
Voila! Instant, easy, adorable, colorful Starburst pretzel flags! These are a guaranteed crowd-pleaser and a fun way to add a personal touch to your Super Bowl party.
You can put them onto cupcakes, cakes, cheese cubes, or even top the Snickers Touchdown Towers with them! They’re incredibly versatile and add a pop of color to any dish.
