A Pioneer in Sustainable Hospitality: British Columbia’s First Carbon-Neutral Hotel

For the ever-growing number of eco-conscious travelers, choosing the Inn at Laurel Point offers peace of mind and a sense of pride. Since 2009, this visionary establishment has held the prestigious distinction of being British Columbia’s first carbon-neutral hotel. This commitment is not merely a label but deeply integrated into the hotel’s operations and ethos. The Inn at Laurel Point is thoughtfully divided into two distinct wings, each offering its own unique charm and array of accommodations: the contemporary Erickson Wing and the classic Laurel Wing. This thoughtful design ensures a diverse selection of rooms and suites to cater to every preference and purpose of travel.

During my stay, I was delighted to experience one of the 35 exquisite suites in the Erickson Wing, which represents the hotel’s newer, architecturally striking addition. These suites are renowned for their modern design and generous layouts. The Laurel Wing, on the other hand, houses 165 rooms and suites that were part of the hotel’s original build, offering a more traditional yet equally comfortable ambiance.

My Erickson Wing Studio Suite was a sanctuary of comfort and convenience, featuring a supremely comfortable king-sized bed, a distinct sitting area perfect for relaxation, and a dedicated desk space for work or planning. Thoughtful amenities such as a Nespresso coffee maker and a small refrigerator added to the convenience. The suite was further enhanced by a truly massive, luxurious bathroom, which boasted a deep-soaker tub for ultimate relaxation, a separate glass-enclosed walk-in shower, generous counter space, and double sinks, ensuring a spa-like experience. A culinary masterpiece: Perfectly prepared Eggs Benedict from the Inn at Laurel Point.

A truly memorable hotel experience often begins with an exceptional breakfast, and in this regard, the Inn at Laurel Point sets an incredibly high bar. My first morning at the hotel was elevated by ordering the Eggs Benedict through room service, an experience that quickly became a highlight of my stay.

Enjoy a delectable breakfast delivered directly to your room, complete with a stunning view.

I say without exaggeration that this was one of the finest Eggs Benedict I have ever encountered. The culinary team went above and beyond, even accommodating my specific request for perfectly crispy bacon – a delightful deviation from traditional Canadian bacon, which I confess is not typically my preference. The bacon arrived crisped to absolute perfection, complementing the dish beautifully. The hollandaise sauce was incredibly silky and rich, coating perfectly poached eggs, which burst with creamy yolks. Accompanying the star of the show were breakfast potatoes, exquisitely crispy and seasoned to a fault; truly, all breakfast potatoes should aspire to such excellence. The thoughtful addition of vibrant tomatoes provided a welcome burst of color, a tangy acidity, and a refreshing counterpoint to the richness of the dish. This extraordinary breakfast was so impressive that I happily ordered it again for room service on my final morning!

For those who prefer dining in the hotel’s on-site restaurant, Aura, a true culinary gem awaits: the innovative Seafood Benedict. This creative rendition of the classic dish is infused with subtle Asian-inspired flavors, featuring incredibly fresh, locally sourced seafood that elevates the experience. It’s a must-try for guests seeking a unique and unforgettable breakfast.

Beyond the lavish breakfast offerings, the Inn at Laurel Point caters to all cravings throughout the day. A convenient Grab-and-Go station, located near the front desk, offers a selection of quality beverages and snacks for those on the move. Excitingly, a new coffee shop and bakery is currently under development, promising freshly baked goods and artisanal coffee, and will be accessible to both hotel guests and the local public. Furthermore, the award-winning Aura restaurant extends its exceptional culinary experience beyond breakfast, inviting guests to enjoy delightful happy hour selections, decadent weekend brunch and afternoon tea, and sophisticated dinner service.
