Sisters Saloon restaurant review on http://UrbanBlissLife.com

At the end of summer, the family took a little road trip and spent a long weekend in Bend, Oregon. We've been going to Sunriver Resort since We was a little girl, and We love going there with the own family now.

It was a gorgeous three and a half hour drive from our home outside of Portland, Oregon. If you've never been to Oregon, there are two routes to Bend from Portland: along Highway 26 around Mount Hood, or down We-5 South and across Highway 22 through Salem and Detroit Lake.

The scene looks like this for a large part of the drive:

central oregon forest and river

Then, as you go through the mountains, you flatten out as you approach the town of Sisters. You'll know you're there when you get this pretty view of the Three Sisters Mountains:

Sisters Saloon & Ranch Grill

Sisters is only about 30 minutes outside of Bend, our final destination, but we were all SO hungry that we decided to stop for a quick bite. With no itinerary, we walked up to the first building that housed a restaurant, looked at the menu on the window, and stepped inside.

As the name suggests, Sisters Saloon is an Old West style saloon and bar. Housed in the historic Hotel Sisters building that was built in 1912, the building is one of the most photographed in Central Oregon and has been restored to retain its Old West charm.

There are swing saloon doors and dark wood seating throughout. History buffs will enjoy the historic photos of the town of Sisters from years past.

This saloon is 100% family friendly and serves modernized cowboy food, along with Pacific Northwest beverages. As soon as we were seated, we were SO ready to dig in.

Beers

The husband and We started with a cool pint of local goodness. He had a Crux Lager and We had an Atlas Cider – both of which are made in nearby Bend, Oregon. Sisters Saloon has a nice selection of local beers from Sisters and Bend, as well as several Oregon beers.

Food

chicken wings at Sisters Saloon

Famished, we ordered the Saloon Wings ($10) to start. You get 9 wings in your choice of a sweet or hot BBQ sauce, served with house ranch or bleu cheese and a side of carrots and celery. These were crispy, doused in a heavy helping of sauce, and slightly tangy. We loved the wings.

In true Wild West style, you can get a burger that would do any cowboy proud here. The husband and We split the Saloon Burger ($13) which came with house butter, bacon, and garlic aioli. It's not diet food, but we don't travel to diet. We travel to eat!

The burgers at Sisters Saloon are made with local, grass-fed beef, and were super moist and flavorful. They also serve a Bison Burger ($14) with Great Plains Bison meat. Most of the veggies are locally sourced and grown in Central Oregon.

The kids went for the kids grilled cheese and fries. If you didn't know: the kids are doing a taste test of grilled cheese sandwiches and french fries throughout the US. We'll post the results next year. Both kids give the Sister's Saloon grilled cheese and fries a thumbs up!

More food

In addition to the items we enjoyed, Sisters Saloon has a large menu that goes beyond simply burgers and fries. You can order fresh Columbia River Steelhead ($22) if it's in season, Traeger Smoked 1/2 Chicken ($16), and Boneless Ruby Trout ($18).

Vegetarians will also find some tasty options at Sisters Saloon. They have a gluten-free, vegan crispy brussels sprouts appetizer ($7) and a vegetarian lasagna ($14) that both sounded tasty.

On sunny days – of which there are MANY in Central Oregon – you can sit outside on the patio and enjoy your burgers and beer.

Wrap up

We love going into a town with no itnerary and finding a great lunch spot on a whim. Sisters Saloon had wonderful service – they were kind and attentive. The food was solid and We love their commitment to locally sourced ingredients.

If you are headed into Central Oregon and the Bend/Sisters area, We definitely recommend stopping by here for a bite and a beer! Tell them Felnu sent you! ;)
