UPDATE: Lincoln is closed.
Simple, seasonal fare is what you'll find at Lincoln restaurant Portland, Oregon. The happy hour menu is a great place to dip your toes into the waters of Chef Jenn Louis' restaurant.

Sometimes it feels like the Keep Portland Weird slogan applies a bit too much to food. There were a few years in which it felt like every chef was battling it out to see who could create the most unusual flavor combinations, use the most outrageous ingredients, or design the most artistic platings.
Can a girl simply get a truly tasty dish of plain ol' baked eggs?
Why yes, yes she can.
Head to Lincoln restaurant on the corner of North Williams and Northeast Failing, for this beauty:

Baked Eggs ($6) with cream, olives, herbed breadcrumbs. Simple & tasty.
At Lincoln restaurant, Chef Jenn Louis serves dishes that are simple, unfussy, and exceptionally executed. She is a true artist whose food allows seasonal ingredients to shine, without unnecessary embellishments. Each ingredient has a purpose on the plate, and We have great respect for her style of cooking – plus, it's darn right tasty.
Happy hour
Lincoln is open at night only, from 5:30 – close Tuesday through Saturday, with a happy hour from 5:30 to 7:00 Tuesday through Friday. All of the menu items with prices listed below are current happy hour prices, unless otherwise stated.

Happy hour drinks are: $4 for a draft beer, $5 for a glass of house wine, and $6 for the Bartender's Choice cocktail and well cocktails.
Like most restaurants in town, the menu changes based on what's available and in season. While not all of the dishes shown below may be offered at the time you choose to visit Lincoln, this gives you a good sample of Chef Louis' style and the type of food you can expect to enjoy during your visit.

English Muffin Breakfast Sandwich(for dinner)
with Fontina in Carroza, egg, sopresseta
Fried Chicken with Togarashi White BBQ Sauce
The fried chicken was absolutely amazing. We could eat ten of those!
There is usually a hummus dish on the menu and the kind of hummus changes regularly. They've served a popular carrot hummus before, then this beautiful and tasty asparagus hummus, and the current menu includes a beet hummus.

Asparagus Hummus with labneh, egg and salmon
The simplest menu items are some of the best tasting. Take the fries and onion rings pictured below. They are fried and seasoned simply right. Diners of all ages will love both of these!

Hand-Cut Fries ($6) with garlic, rosemary, pecorino-romano
Cornmeal Onion Rings ($6) with pimenton aioli

Spaccatelli with smoked tallow, speck, sherry
Calamari with cabbage, caraway, skordalia
You can also enjoy decadent desserts at Lincoln.

Chocolate Fudge Cake

Brutti ma Buoni ($8) orange, grapefruit, creme fraiche
Malabi Israeli Milk Pudding with Marionberry, Rose Petals, and
Orange Blossom Water, Candied Ginger, Pistachio

We enjoyed all of the dishes We've tried at Lincoln, but the favorites so far have been the pasta dishes (Chef Louis is also the author of Pasta By Hand) and the baked eggs.
Lincoln is a casual eatery that seats about 75 people. You can choose from a variety of seating options: bar, long tables, smaller tables, and booths. The high ceilings and retractable side walls help open up the space and it somehow manages to feel wide and spacious yet intimate at the same time. We'd suggest coming here for after-work happy hour with co-workers or friends, or a date night out. It is kid-friendly but there is no separate kids' menu, if that's something you/your kids seek in a restaurant. The kids would LOVE the fries, chicken, pasta, and dessert.
