The drive to Jordan Winery & Vineyard is an experience in itself. You’ll traverse picturesque farmland and ascend a winding road, ultimately arriving at a breathtaking vista overlooking a grand vineyard and winery. Founded in 1976 by Tom Jordan and his wife Sally, Jordan Vineyard and Winery was born from a shared passion for French food and wine, which they sought to bring to the California landscape. Today, their son John stewards the estate, upholding the family’s commitment to producing world-class Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay.
Jordan Winery stands as a testament to elegance and beauty. The sprawling estate encompasses nearly 1,200 acres of rolling hills, dotted with oak trees, serene lakes, babbling streams, and flourishing vineyards. Olive trees, verdant pastures, and vibrant gardens further enhance the picturesque landscape, complementing the winery, hospitality facilities, and operational infrastructure.
I had the distinct pleasure of partaking in the Estate Tour & Tasting, an immersive experience offered from mid-April through mid-November (weather permitting). This 3-hour tour is an absolute must for anyone visiting Sonoma wine country. The memories forged during this tour are unforgettable, and the opportunity to witness the magic of Jordan Vineyard & Winery firsthand is an unparalleled experience. Selecting the images to share here was a challenge, given the sheer volume of captivating moments captured during the tour, a testament to the visual splendor of the estate.
The tour begins at the main entrance, where you’re greeted with a delightful assortment of fresh fruit sourced directly from the vineyard gardens and delectable housemade pastries. These are accompanied by refreshing water and orange juice, setting the stage for the immersive experience that lies ahead.

The next stop is the impressive oak tank room, where towering oak barrels command attention. Each barrel has the capacity to hold 2,500 cases of wine, a testament to the scale of Jordan’s wine production.

Jordan Winery produces approximately 90,000 cases of wine annually, with roughly 30,000 cases dedicated to Chardonnay and 60,000 cases to Cabernet Sauvignon. The family remains steadfast in its commitment to producing wines of the highest quality, focusing their expertise on these two exceptional varietals.

From the oak tank room, you’ll board the Jordan Vineyard & Winery bus, accompanied by your fellow tour participants, for a guided exploration of the estate.

The tour’s next highlight is the picturesque Jordan Winery barn and gardens. The family continues to expand the estate’s animal inhabitants, including cattle for the Jordan beef program, adorable donkeys, and chickens that provide the Jordan chef with fresh, estate-raised eggs used in meals for guests.

The estate also features approximately 1.5 acres of organically grown vegetables, fruits, and native grasses, a testament to Jordan’s commitment to sustainable practices.

Adding to their commitment to sustainability, Jordan Vineyard & Winery installed a large solar panel array (located near the gardens) two years ago, reducing their utility dependence by an impressive 99%.
Following the gardens and farm animals, the tour proceeds to one of the estate’s stunning lakes. Jordan Estate is a certified Fish Friendly Farming property, reflecting their dedication to environmental stewardship. The setting is truly breathtaking, offering a serene and picturesque backdrop.

Adjacent to the lake, a beautifully adorned stone and wood table awaits, complete with wine glasses and place settings for each guest.

The chef has prepared a light and flavorful dish featuring lightly pickled vegetables from the garden, served with rice, a perfect complement to the wine.

This exquisite dish pairs perfectly with Jordan Chardonnay. The Jordan Chardonnay is a harmonious blend of light and fruity notes, achieving a perfect balance without being overpowering. It’s an ideal choice for a warm California afternoon.

As the tour continues across the expansive estate, we were honored to receive a visit from Jordan Vineyard & Winery CEO John Jordan. He greeted us warmly, answering questions about his family’s vineyards and sharing his passion for winemaking.

Next, we ascended to the highest point of the Jordan estate, where breathtaking views of the vineyards awaited us, particularly stunning in the autumn light.

A modern vista house awaited us, where we would savor the final meal of the tour.

Stepping inside felt like entering a luxurious retreat. Even though our time there was limited, it offered a sense of escape and tranquility.

The culmination of the tour is a tasting of Jordan’s world-class Cabernet Sauvignon, a wine that I fell head over heels for, paired with a meticulously prepared meal of meats, cheeses, and bread. A delectable beef and vegetable dish served in a small cast iron pot perfectly complemented the Cabernet Sauvignon. The menu even featured my favorite cheese: Beemster Gouda!

By this point, a sense of camaraderie had developed among the tour participants. We engaged in lively conversations, sharing stories and experiences while savoring the exceptional wine and gourmet lunch.

While a three-hour vineyard tour may seem lengthy to some, I assure you that it passes by incredibly quickly and is worth every penny and every minute. This was a wine tour to remember, and I wholeheartedly recommend a visit to Jordan Winery and their Estate Tour and Tasting. It’s an experience you simply cannot miss. It was undoubtedly one of the highlights of our wine country getaway to Sonoma County. Not only is the vineyard and estate property breathtakingly beautiful, but the wines are world-class, and the people are incredibly friendly, knowledgeable, and welcoming, making you feel right at home. I sincerely hope that if you visit Jordan Vineyard and Winery in Healdsburg, California, you’ll enjoy it as much as we did.
