Jackrabbit restaurant offers an upscale dining experience with a unique and inventive menu, perfectly situated in the vibrant heart of downtown Portland, Oregon. Discover why this restaurant is a must-visit for locals and tourists alike, offering a memorable culinary adventure.

Jackrabbit is more than just a restaurant; it’s an institution, a fixture that feels inherently woven into the fabric of Portland. It possesses a unique charm, blending the city’s quirky, creative spirit with a touch of sophisticated elegance. The decor alone tells a story: octopus-arm chandeliers crafted from repurposed bicycle parts cast a warm glow upon the space, while high-back, tufted emerald bar stools invite you to settle in for a delightful evening. The walls are adorned with a carefully curated collection of books, oddities, and memorabilia, a nod to Portlandia’s whimsical aesthetic, creating an atmosphere that is both familiar and captivating. Jackrabbit seamlessly merges the comfortable, classic essence of Portland with the ambitious energy of a bustling metropolis.
Immersing Yourself in the Jackrabbit Dining Experience

Since its grand opening in the spring of 2017, I have had the pleasure of dining at Jackrabbit on numerous occasions. From leisurely breakfasts and productive lunch meetings to romantic dinners and exclusive Portland Dining Month menus, I’ve experienced the restaurant’s versatility and consistent quality firsthand. The atmosphere is adaptable, making it suitable for a wide range of occasions.
A Culinary Journey Through Jackrabbit’s Menu
Over the years, Jackrabbit has consistently impressed with its innovative dishes and commitment to using fresh, local ingredients. The menu is a carefully curated selection of American cuisine with a creative twist, offering something for every palate.

Many of the classic dishes that I’ve previously highlighted on my blog remain staples on the menu, a testament to their enduring appeal. These dishes are not only visually stunning but also incredibly flavorful, making them personal favorites that I consistently enjoy at Jackrabbit.
Recently, my husband and I enjoyed a memorable date night at Jackrabbit following the Feast Portland festival. This visit allowed us to sample some of the restaurant’s latest culinary creations and reaffirm our appreciation for its consistently high standards.
Craft Cocktails and Refreshing Beverages

Jackrabbit has garnered significant recognition for its exceptional gin-focused cocktail program. During your visit, I highly recommend indulging in one of their signature cocktails, expertly crafted with premium ingredients and innovative flavor combinations. In addition to their impressive cocktail selection, they also offer Negronis on tap and a refreshing GSM Rosé wine on tap, providing a diverse range of options to suit every preference.
Delectable Starters to Begin Your Meal
I find myself particularly drawn to Jackrabbit’s selection of starters and salads, often preferring them even to the main courses. The half-dozen oysters ($18) are consistently fresh and briny, making them an excellent choice to kick off your meal. The deviled eggs ($12) are a playful take on a classic dish, while the 3 Little Pigs ($15) offer a savory and satisfying combination of flavors and textures.

The Tombo Crudo ($14) is a consistently delectable starter and one of my absolute favorite dishes at Jackrabbit. The crisp rice crackers provide a delightful crunch that complements the delicate tuna and aromatic herbs, creating a harmonious balance of flavors and textures.

If you’re dining with vegetarian friends, they will undoubtedly appreciate the Avocado Salad ($11). While it is a seasonal dish, I’ve noticed it still gracing the menu as of today (October 22nd). If it’s available during your visit, I highly recommend ordering it. The combination of radishes, avocado, black lime, and cucumber creates a vibrant and refreshing medley of flavors, all beautifully arranged on a bed of creamy labneh.
Given that this is a seasonal salad, you may encounter similar variations featuring other vegetables as the star ingredient, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to using the freshest seasonal produce.
Satisfying and Memorable Main Entrees
For vegan diners, it’s worth noting that the meat dishes tend to be the true stars at Jackrabbit. However, the restaurant is generally willing to accomodate and create a vegan dish given the available ingredients.

The Local Fish ($32, pictured above from a previous meal), Flat Iron Steak ($35), and Jackrabbit Burger ($17) are consistently delicious options, prepared with high-quality ingredients and impeccable technique. Each dish offers a unique culinary experience that is sure to satisfy even the most discerning palate.

For larger groups, the shareable signature plates are an excellent choice for celebrating special occasions such as birthdays, anniversaries, and significant business achievements. These include the Mr. McGregor’s Buttermilk Fried Rabbit ($75, pictured above from a previous meal), Pig’s Head Gabacho Style ($65), and the impressive 28-day aged four-pound pin bone Steak ($120), which is undoubtedly worth every penny and perfect for sharing among 4-8 people.

In my experience, Jackrabbit’s pastas have been somewhat inconsistent. I absolutely love their Rigatoni ($23) with lamb ragu, which is consistently flavorful and perfectly cooked. However, my most recent order of Spaghettini ($20, pictured above) was unfortunately soggy, overcooked, and lacked the vibrant flavors I had come to expect. While the presentation was undeniably beautiful, the dish ultimately fell short of my expectations.

My husband opted for the Risotto with Sweet Corn and Mascarpone ($21), with the addition of Prosciutto ($5). While the presentation could have been improved, the flavors were undeniably present and satisfying, creating a comforting and enjoyable dish.
Based on my experiences, I would recommend sticking with the Rigatoni, Mafaldine, or Orechiette when ordering pasta at Jackrabbit. I’ve consistently enjoyed these dishes during past visits, finding them to be well-prepared and full of flavor.
Indulgent Desserts to Complete Your Dining Experience
The desserts at Jackrabbit consistently shine, offering a sweet and satisfying conclusion to your meal. The pastry team clearly possesses a talent for creating innovative and delectable treats that are sure to impress.

The chocolate cake with hazelnuts was an absolute revelation, boasting a rich, decadent flavor profile and a perfectly moist texture. The hazelnuts added a delightful crunch and nutty aroma that complemented the chocolate beautifully.

The seasonal cobbler was equally impressive, offering a warm and comforting combination of fruit and crumble topping. It was the perfect dessert for a chilly evening, evoking feelings of nostalgia and pure indulgence.
Planning Your Visit to Jackrabbit Restaurant

I wholeheartedly recommend dining at Jackrabbit. It’s an excellent choice for a variety of occasions, including romantic date nights, fun girls’ nights out, and productive weekday lunch meetings. Their event space is also incredibly versatile and unique, capable of catering to intimate birthday dinners as well as large-scale company parties.
The menu items that truly shine are undoubtedly the seafood and meat dishes, showcasing the restaurant’s commitment to quality and culinary expertise. While vegan diners may find it somewhat challenging to assemble a substantial meal, it is certainly not impossible. If you’re visiting Portland, Oregon, the restaurant’s location is unbeatable, placing you within easy walking distance of Pioneer Courthouse Square and a plethora of shops, museums, and entertainment venues.
