It's no secret, dogs love treats! But your pup will REALLY love these homemade dog treats with rolled oats! Plus, they're super simple and fast to make.
The Story Behind These Homemade Dog Treats With Rolled Oats
The summer of 2011, we lost our beloved loyal companion of 12 years, our sweet dog Thor. We hadn't planned on adopting another dog so soon, but fate worked its lovely miraculous hands and into our lives in November of that year came a super sweet, happy, smart, lovable guard dog named Kirby. Our children were enamored, and their smiles filled the mama heart with so much joy.

The kids LOVE birthdays. Kirby's birthday was simply a couple of months after we adopted him. So from the time we adopted him, the kids wouldn't stop talking about his birthday, and how he was going to turn three.
What should we get Kirby for his birthday? Is he going to have a party? What do you think we should make Kirby for his birthday? We are so excited for Kirby's birthday!! Kirby, are you excited for your birthday? We are! Let's make him some treats! And on and on and on it went.
So, we made these homemade dog biscuits (recipe below). The trick was figuring out what ingredients to add. We knew he loved peanut butter, so that was a given. Then we decided to include rolled oats for more texture and extra nutrition. They were simple to make – and he loved them!

Kirby love his special stack of birthday star treats. He did not blow out the candle, but happily gobbled up the treats.

We designed some labels for the treat jars for Kirby's presents, and then we also filled some take out containers with treats for our guests to take home to their own doggies.
::DIY BLISS TIP:: Save all containers that enter your house — you can reuse them for so many things! The smaller takeout containers were actual takeout containers from restaurants and delis, and the the taller container with blue lid is a former peanut butter jar. Give these a super good wash when the contents are done, and they are good to go! We use these for the kids' art supply containers, office supply containers, party favor and gift containers, and so much more.

For the human guests, in addition to traditional party food, we made sugar cookies dipped in chocolate in the shape of dog bones.

Overall, the party was a success. Kirby was smiling his sweet happy dog smile and the kids beamed from ear to ear. We realized afterward that it was truly a celebration of Kirby's entrance into our family, and We love that our kids were so insistent on doing this for him.
