This Apple Whiskey Sour with ginger puts a fresh twist on the traditional cocktail. Perfect for lazy summer nights!
Last night, like so many of you, We said goodbye to Mad Men, a show that masterfully touched on issues involving working women, racism, sexism, politics, and war, with witty banter, fabulous period fashion, and drinking. Lots and lots of drinking.
So cheers to you, Mad Men. Today, We honor you by launching a new blog series: Mixology Monday.
Introducing: Mixology Mondays
This series has been in the works for a while now, and We am thrilled to be able to start sharing with you new cocktail recipes, reviews of new spirits, mixology tips that We've learned from the experts, and cocktail + food pairings.
While the wine industry and beer industry both continue to blossom, the spirits industry is stirring at an incredible pace with an impressive boom of tasty new offerings (check out some of the hot new trends in the TOAST 2015 event post). To help you cut through the noise and find new spirits to fill your glasses, We'm so excited to bring you this Mixology Monday series.
Plus: Mondays can always use a little pick-me-up, right?
Our first Mixology Monday cocktail is sure to pick up your spirits after saying goodbye to our dear television show friend, Mad Men: Apple Whiskey Ginger Sour.
Apple Whiskey Sour with Ginger

Fresh lemon juice and freshly grated ginger make this cocktail sing of summer. It's perfect for your summer barbecues and picnics, or simply for chilling on the porch after a long trying day at the agency (a la Mad Men).
Aval Pota
This Apple Whiskey Ginger Sour features Aval Pota, an apple whiskey made by McMenamins' Edgefield Distillery. We fell in love with Aval Pota when McMenamins generously sent me a bottle to try out. We'm a bourbon & whiskey gal, but sometimes bourbon or whiskey cocktails can be a bit too harsh, too dark, too biting for me. This one is made from Edgefield Distillery's original malt whiskey (which is also tasty on its own), then combined with fresh-pressed Hood River, Oregon apples and cinnamon. The result is a slightly sweet, slightly tart flavored whiskey that makes you think of apple pie — or apple whiskey hand pies, like the ones We made with Aval Pota last summer.

Sharing Mixology Tips & Tricks of the Trade
One of the goals with Mixology Monday is to help take the mystery and stress out of cocktail mixing. We've picked up some tips from master mixologists like Juyoung Kang and local bartenders at hot spots like Aviary, Double Dragon, and Ecliptic Brewing, and We'm always eager to learn more. Share your cocktail questions here, as well as any particular spirits you'd like to learn more about or are interested in incorporating into cocktails, and We'll try to address them in future Mixology Monday post!
Cheers to another great week ahead!
