From the moment you step foot on Royal Caribbean’s Anthem of the Seas, you’re enveloped in an atmosphere of warmth and excitement. While ample spaces exist for quiet relaxation and serene moments away from the bustle, a distinct, high-energy buzz pulsates throughout the ship. This vibrant ambiance is meticulously cultivated and sustained by the ship’s vast and diverse array of entertainment choices, ensuring every day and night is filled with adventure and joy.

Anthem of the Seas Entertainment: A Symphony of Celebrations

Our media cruise experience began with a truly grand introduction to the Anthem of the Seas’ entertainment philosophy. The “Anchored in Anthem Ceremony” was a magnificent spectacle, perfectly setting the stage for the voyage ahead. The stirring sounds of bagpipes heralded the ship’s arrival, creating a memorable, ceremonial atmosphere. This was followed by tantalizing previews of the onboard “We Will Rock You” musical and electrifying tribute band performances, giving us a taste of the exceptional talent that graces the ship’s stages. A moving rendition of “America the Beautiful” resonated deeply, culminating in an impressive real-time viewing and countdown to the ship’s official anchoring in America. These unforgettable moments, showcasing the ship’s flair for dramatic and heartfelt celebrations, are captured in our dedicated YouTube video.

The kickoff festivities reached their peak with a grand balloon drop in the ship’s main indoor space, accompanied by even more exhilarating live music. This joyous explosion of color and sound perfectly encapsulated the ship’s dedication to creating an immersive and continuous party atmosphere. Later, the Sail Away Ceremony took place on the expansive main decks, transforming into a vibrant dance party. A skilled DJ spun an energetic mix of party tunes, filling the air with infectious rhythms as we watched in absolute awe, sailing gracefully past the iconic Lady Liberty and the breathtaking skyline of New York City. The blend of spectacular views and spirited music created an indelible memory, marking the true beginning of our cruise adventure.

Broadway at Sea: We Will Rock You

A true highlight of Anthem of the Seas’ entertainment roster is the award-winning musical, We Will Rock You. While my schedule onboard was packed with so many incredible experiences that I didn’t get to see the full production, I was fortunate enough to catch a captivating preview during the Anchored in America ceremony. This globally acclaimed musical, celebrated for breaking box office records in London, brings the electrifying music of Queen to life in a futuristic world where rock music is banned.

The performers are nothing short of phenomenal! Their energy is infectious, and their vocal prowess is truly impressive. Even in a brief preview, they managed to rock the house with a killer medley of Queen’s greatest hits, including timeless anthems like “Bohemian Rhapsody,” “Radio Ga Ga,” and, of course, the iconic “We Will Rock You.” The choreography is dynamic, the costumes are vibrant, and the sheer talent on display makes this a must-see show for any Queen fan or lover of high-caliber musical theater. It’s an exhilarating production that perfectly blends rock concert vibes with a compelling narrative, proving that Royal Caribbean is committed to delivering Broadway-level experiences at sea.

Two70: A Multi-Dimensional Spectacle & Spectra’s Cabaret

One of the most groundbreaking entertainment venues on any cruise ship, Two70, is a multi-million dollar multimedia performance space that truly defies categorization. This revolutionary venue transforms throughout the day, offering panoramic ocean views by day and becoming an immersive, technologically advanced theater by night. The entire room is meticulously outfitted to become an integral part of the performance, boasting 18 state-of-the-art projectors that seamlessly combine to create an ambient surface over 100 feet wide and more than 20 feet tall. This “Vistaramas” technology delivers stunning visual effects, enveloping the audience in breathtaking digital scenery. Complementing these visuals are six colossal robotic screens, called Roboscreens, that move with incredible precision and grace, performing choreography like you’ve never seen used on stage before.

Within this extraordinary setting, Royal Caribbean presents its original production, Spectra’s Cabaret. This show is a technological and theatrical marvel, blending acrobatics, intricate dance routines, dazzling costume changes, and a spectacular multimedia display. The enigmatic narrator, Spectra, guides the audience through his fantastical, multi-dimensional imaginative world, filled with vibrant characters and stunning visual artistry. The fusion of live performance with cutting-edge technology creates a truly unique and avant-garde cabaret experience.

Personally, I was absolutely captivated by Spectra’s Cabaret and thought the cast delivered a fantastic and powerful performance. However, it’s worth noting that it’s a show that sparks discussion. Some of my fellow, older passengers I spoke with afterward had mixed feelings, finding it perhaps a bit too abstract or modern for their tastes. Interestingly, my own mother, who is of a similar age to some of those passengers, told me she thoroughly enjoyed the show as well.

It’s important to approach Spectra’s Cabaret with the right expectations. This isn’t your grandmother’s traditional cruise show; it’s an edgy, contemporary twist on a classic cabaret, pushing the boundaries of theatrical entertainment. If you appreciate innovative performances, artistic expression, and a show that’s both visually stunning and thought-provoking, you’ll likely find this Anthem of the Seas entertainment option to be a truly spectacular and memorable experience. It’s a testament to Royal Caribbean’s commitment to delivering fresh, bold, and diverse entertainment that caters to a wide spectrum of preferences.

The quality of the musicianship is consistently high, creating an inviting atmosphere for both listening and dancing.
