Discovering Browne Family Vineyards: A Walla Walla Wine Tasting Adventure
Embark on a delightful wine tasting journey in Walla Walla, Washington, and immerse yourself in the world of exquisite wines at Browne Family Vineyards. Located on Main Street, their tasting room offers a diverse selection of delicious, rich red wines, playful white wines, and surprisingly delightful sparkling wines.
Walla Walla, nestled in the heart of Eastern Washington, is a charming and serene town renowned for its thriving wine industry. Boasting over 100 wineries, this agriculturally rich valley is particularly celebrated for its Cabernet Sauvignon, a varietal that holds a special place in my heart, especially when crafted by Browne Family Vineyards.
During a memorable trip to Walla Walla last fall, my husband and I had the pleasure of exploring several local wineries. Visiting the Browne Family Vineyards tasting room was a highlight I had eagerly anticipated.
The Allure of Browne Family Vineyards Tasting Room
Housed within a classic brick building, the Browne Family Vineyards tasting room graces Main Street, a thoroughfare that retains its small-town USA charm while now being adorned with numerous wine tasting rooms and excellent restaurants.
Stepping inside, you’ll find a space that is both open and welcoming, characterized by warm brown tones and rustic Pacific Northwest aesthetics. The plush, tufted leather couches are a particularly appealing feature, creating a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere for wine tasting.
A Symphony of Flavors: Exploring Browne Family Vineyards’ Wines
Browne Family Vineyards is perhaps most famous for its exceptional Cabernet Sauvignon. This award-winning wine, consistently rated with 88 points or higher, is a deliciously rich and ripe red. Composed primarily of Cabernet Sauvignon with a subtle touch of Petite Verdot, this wine boasts silky smooth tannins and a captivating flavor profile of bold, dark fruits.
If you’re seeking the perfect wine to accompany a hearty steak, lamb, or stew, look no further than the Browne Family Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon. Its robust character and elegant structure make it an ideal pairing.
The Browne Family Vineyards label also features a diverse portfolio of other red wines, including a Cabernet Franc, Malbec, Petite Verdot, Merlot, and a delightful Tribute Red Blend. Most of their wines are priced in the $30-40 range, offering excellent value for the quality you receive.
During a previous wine tasting experience at a nearby establishment, a fellow wine enthusiast shared their enthusiasm for the Browne Family Vineyards Tribute Red Blend, mentioning they had just purchased an entire case. Intrigued, we made sure to sample this red blend during our visit. It’s a beautifully balanced red with intriguing notes of pepper and tobacco, making it a fantastic choice for dinner parties or special occasions.
Understanding the Wine Family Tree: A Primer on Precept Wine
Our visit also provided an opportunity to sample other wines available in the tasting room that belong to the Precept Wine family. To fully appreciate these offerings, it’s helpful to understand the interconnectedness of the wine industry, so here’s a brief overview…
In the complex and fascinating world of wine, larger entities often own several smaller brands. Precept Wine stands out as the largest privately owned wine company in the Pacific Northwest. Notably, Andrew Browne, the Principal of Browne Family Vineyards, also serves as the CEO of Precept Wine.
Browne Family Vineyards is part of the Precept Wine umbrella, alongside other esteemed Washington wineries like Waterbrook Winery, Canoe Ridge, and, since 2014, the renowned New Mexico-based sparkling wine producer, Gruet.
Visiting different tasting rooms within the same wine-producing family presents a unique opportunity to sample wines from their other labels. It’s a wonderful way to gain insight into the overall portfolio, and I was particularly delighted that Browne Family Vineyards was also pouring some of Gruet’s sparkling wines during our visit!
The Sparkling Delights of Gruet
I have a deep appreciation for a well-crafted sparkling wine.
And Gruet consistently produces exceptional sparkling wines. The Gruet family has been crafting Champagne in France since 1952. They expanded their winemaking legacy to the US by purchasing a vineyard in New Mexico.
In 2014, Precept Wine acquired Gruet, and the brand continues to flourish. Gruet specializes in Methode Champenoise sparkling wines. My personal favorites are the Gruet Brut, as pictured above, and the Gruet Brut Rosé, shown below.
Planning Your Visit to Browne Family Vineyards
One of the greatest advantages of wine tasting in downtown Walla Walla is the ease of visiting multiple tasting rooms in a short amount of time. While Walla Walla is home to numerous beautiful vineyards and wine tasting facilities that I highly recommend exploring, Main Street is the perfect option if you’re pressed for time.
Browne Family Vineyards boasts one of the largest tasting rooms on Main Street. Its comfortable, rustic ambiance and diverse wine selection ensure that you’ll find at least one bottle that you simply must take home with you!
