Last summer, my family and I had the pleasure of spending time in Switzerland, a place deeply rooted in my husband’s childhood. With family still residing there, we seized the opportunity to explore the Swiss Alps, with Mount Titlis as our primary destination. The experience was nothing short of spectacular.
Our trip coincided with visits from my husband’s brothers and their families, turning it into a delightful cousin reunion. Against the backdrop of sunny skies, we all ventured to Mount Titlis, marking it as a highlight of our Swiss adventure.
Mount Titlis quickly became our favorite Swiss adventure. This majestic peak offers a unique blend of natural beauty and thrilling attractions, making it a must-visit destination for anyone traveling to Switzerland.
Journey to Mount Titlis from Zurich
Our journey began with a scenic train ride from a station just outside of Zurich to Lucerne. From Lucerne, we transferred to another train bound for Engelberg, a charming town nestled at the foot of Mount Titlis.
Upon arriving in Engelberg, the Mount Titlis valley station is easily accessible by a short bus ride or a pleasant 5-10 minute walk from the Engelberg train station. The ease of access makes it a convenient day trip from Zurich or Lucerne.
Exploring Mount Titlis in the Swiss Alps
Upon arrival at the valley station, presenting your railpass will grant you a 25% discount on your tickets. These tickets provide access to the various attractions spread across Mount Titlis.
We opted for full tickets to the summit, priced at 92 Euros per adult, with free admission for children aged 18 and younger. It’s an investment that unlocks a world of unforgettable experiences.
Once you reach the top, most of the activities are free. This includes all the attractions discussed in this article, with the exception of dining at the panorama restaurant.
Ascending to the Summit: A Breathtaking Gondola Ride
Like many mountains in the Alps, the ascent to Mount Titlis involves a series of gondola rides. The changing scenery, from the picturesque town of Engelberg to the towering mountains, is simply breathtaking.
The view of Engelberg resembles a classic Swiss storybook picture, a testament to the country’s enchanting beauty.
As you ascend, the views become increasingly awe-inspiring, promising an unforgettable alpine experience.
Experience the Titlis Rotair: A 360-Degree Gondola Adventure
After the initial gondola rides, you’ll board the Titlis Rotair, the world’s first 360-degree rotating gondola. This innovative gondola provides unparalleled panoramic views of the surrounding landscape.
During the five-minute ride, the gondola revolves 360 degrees, treating you to breathtaking views of steep rock faces, deep crevasses, and distant snow-covered mountain peaks. It’s a truly immersive experience.
At the summit of Mount Titlis, a large main building awaits, providing access to a variety of mountain activities and attractions.
Even simply playing in the snow at the top is a delightful experience for families, offering a chance to connect with nature and enjoy the alpine environment.
Tip: Wear closed-toe shoes like sneakers or snow boots, as your feet are likely to get wet. After all, it’s a mountain, and children can’t resist snow puddles! Soaked sneakers are a small price to pay for the joy of playing in the snow.
Brave the Mount Titlis Cliff Walk: Europe’s Highest Suspension Bridge
A highlight of Mount Titlis is the Cliff Walk, Europe’s highest suspension bridge. This thrilling experience is not for the faint of heart!

150 heart-pounding steps await you on the Cliff Walk, a spectacular suspension bridge high on the summit.
I absolutely loved the Cliff Walk! The views from the bridge are simply gorgeous (just remember to look across, not down!).
The bridge is more wobbly than I expected, which adds to the thrill. It’s a testament to engineering, suspended by cables high above the ground.

My husband captured a stunning image of the bridge and the surrounding Alps, showcasing the bridge’s impressive structure.
The walk across the bridge went by quickly, especially since I was focused on ensuring my children weren’t running across.
At the end of the Cliff Walk suspension bridge, you can linger and enjoy the view from viewing stations built into the mountain, return to the building, or venture into the Glacier Cave.
Of course, we chose to explore the Glacier Cave!
Explore the Glacier Cave: A Journey into Ice
The Glacier Cave was an absolutely amazing experience!
You literally walk through tunnels carved inside the glacier, a surreal and enchanting experience.
The walls and floor are made of ice, creating an awe-inspiring environment that is beyond imagination!
The children had a fantastic time skating through the cave tunnels when there weren’t other tourists around.
The cave features cutouts for photo opportunities and intricate ice sculptures of plants and flowers.
We all had so much fun exploring the Glacier Cave!
Dining on Mount Titlis: Restaurants with a View
All of this adventuring is sure to make you hungry, and Mount Titlis offers five restaurant options. We chose to dine at the Panorama restaurant, a sit-down establishment with an absolutely amazing view.
The restaurant boasts the best view I’ve ever experienced!
I enjoyed the spaghetti carbonara, paired with a glass of rosé. Carbs were definitely in order for this mountain adventure!
The men ordered various pizzas, all of which were delicious. And of course, we enjoyed Swiss beer!
The kids’ menu included traditional options such as chicken and fries, sandwiches, and a variety of pizzas.
The kids’ pizzas come with veggies shaped into happy faces, which was both cute and tasty!

Our adventures in the Swiss Alps at Mount Titlis were incredibly fun and memorable. If you are staying in or near Zurich or Lucerne during your trip to Switzerland, I highly recommend setting aside a day to visit.
