Planning a quick getaway to the Big Apple? New York City is a world-class destination with endless possibilities. This 3-day weekend itinerary provides insider tips on where to stay, what to eat, and how to make the most of your time in NYC.

New York City is a city that captivates, excites, and constantly reinvents itself. It’s a place I’m drawn back to repeatedly, and for good reason. Each visit unveils new experiences, hidden gems, and culinary delights.
Whether you’re a first-time visitor or a seasoned traveler, NYC always has something new to offer. The city’s vibrant energy is contagious, and its diverse neighborhoods each have unique character and charm. From world-renowned museums to cutting-edge restaurants, NYC offers a sensory overload in the best possible way.
Your Action-Packed 3-Day NYC Itinerary
Recently, I planned a long weekend escape to New York City with my husband. It was a much-needed break, a chance to reconnect and explore the city that never sleeps.
This trip was especially significant for me. It came shortly after a surgery, offering a respite before another phase of treatment. A weekend getaway to the East Coast proved to be the perfect restorative experience!

- Ascend the Empire State Building: Take in breathtaking panoramic views of the city skyline.
- Experience a Broadway Show: Immerse yourself in the magic of live theater with a world-class performance.
- Explore Central Park: Escape the urban jungle in this sprawling green oasis, perfect for a stroll, bike ride, or picnic.
- Hop-On Hop-Off Bus Tour: A convenient way to see many of NYC’s major attractions and get your bearings.
- Savor a Slice at Joe’s Pizza: Indulge in a classic New York pizza experience at this legendary pizzeria.
- Behold Times Square: Experience the bright lights and buzzing atmosphere of this iconic intersection.
These classic tourist destinations offer a fantastic introduction to the city’s energy and history. Be sure to plan your visits strategically to maximize your time and avoid long lines.
For this particular trip, we sought out new culinary experiences and explored some of the newer attractions that were not on our list previously. This started with a stay in a luxury hotel.
Luxury Stay: 1 Hotel Central Park

1 Hotel Central Park offers a luxurious and sustainable urban oasis in the heart of Midtown Manhattan.
Located just steps from Central Park, at the corner of 58th Street and 6th Avenue, this hotel provides an unbeatable location for exploring the city.

While NYC hotel rooms can be notoriously small, the rooms at 1 Hotel Central Park offer a bit more space – a luxury that comes at a premium. However, the added comfort and impeccable service are well worth the splurge.
Our room featured a separate living area, providing a more apartment-like feel during our stay. The hotel staff was attentive and provided excellent service without being overbearing, ensuring a memorable experience.
NYC Coffee Shops: Fueling Your Adventures
Urban Backyard: A Charming Nolita Gem
Urban Backyard is a delightful coffee shop located in the heart of the Nolita neighborhood.

NYC boasts an abundance of coffee shops, but we only had time to visit one on my list during this trip. Urban Backyard proved to be a winner!
Just steps from Little Italy, this cozy coffee shop offers both indoor and outdoor seating. It’s the perfect spot to grab an espresso drink and sample their adorable mini cupcakes.
Epicerie Boulud: A Culinary Destination in The Plaza
Located within The Plaza Hotel, Epicerie Boulud offers a delightful coffee experience in a sophisticated setting.

Venture into the Food Hall at the Plaza via the 58th Street entrance. Take the escalator to the lower level to explore a variety of counter-style restaurants, coffee shops, and boutiques. Grab a coffee at Epicerie Boulud and treat yourself to macarons from Ladurée.
Must-Visit NYC Attractions
Even if you’ve visited New York City before, there may still be some iconic tourist spots that you haven’t yet checked off your list. Here are some of the attractions we explored during our 3-day trip.
9/11 Memorial & One World Observatory: A Moving Tribute
The 9/11 Memorial in downtown Manhattan serves as a poignant reminder of a tragic day in American history.

The memorial honors the 2,977 victims of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks at the World Trade Center site, in Pennsylvania, and at the Pentagon, as well as the six people killed in the 1993 World Trade Center bombing.
Visiting the memorial was a deeply moving experience. It’s a somber place, so please be respectful of those around you who may have lost loved ones in the attacks. Take a moment to reflect and pay your respects at this beautifully designed memorial.
If you plan to visit the One World Observatory at One World Trade Center, it’s recommended to book your tickets in advance.
The Oculus: Architectural Marvel
The Oculus, located near the 9/11 Memorial, is a striking architectural masterpiece.

It serves as the World Trade Center Transportation Hub and was designed to resemble “a bird flying from the hands of a child,” symbolizing hope in the face of tragedy.
In addition to being a train station, the Oculus houses a variety of shops and restaurants. If you’re looking for a place to eat, consider checking out Eataly, a large gourmet food hall with multiple restaurants.
The High Line: An Elevated Urban Oasis
The High Line is a public park built on a 1.45-mile-long elevated rail structure on Manhattan’s West Side.

We enjoyed walking the High Line from lunch at Queensyard in Hudson Yards to drinks at Gallow Green. The High Line features public art, water fountains, and restrooms along the way.
This car-free and dog-free trail offers a peaceful escape from the city’s noise and traffic.
Hudson Yards: A New Neighborhood on the Rise
Hudson Yards is one of New York City’s newest neighborhoods, featuring modern high-rise residences, office spaces, parks, upscale shopping, and dining.

It’s also home to The Vessel, a striking interactive art installation.
We didn’t have time to climb to the top of The Vessel, but history and architecture enthusiasts might enjoy the Secret of Hudson Yards, High Line, and Vessel Tour.
NYC Dining: A Culinary Adventure
Manhatta: Dinner with a View
Manhatta offers a fine dining experience with breathtaking views of the New York City skyline.

Located on the 60th floor of the Liberty Building, this upscale restaurant offers unparalleled views of lower Manhattan.
The impeccable service and exquisite dishes make Manhatta a must-visit for anyone spending 3 days (or more!) in NYC.
- Best Restaurant with a View of NYC: Manhatta
Queensyard: A Hudson Yards Delight
Queensyard offers a sophisticated dining experience in the heart of Hudson Yards.

Located on the 4th floor of the Hudson Yards shopping center, this restaurant boasts clear views of The Vessel.
The service was warm and attentive, and the meal was truly exceptional. We savored the tuna tataki, baked Alaskan halibut, and truffle mushroom risotto – each dish thoughtfully crafted with beautiful textures.
Frenchette: A Tribeca Bistro
Frenchette is a French bistro located in the Tribeca neighborhood.

Frenchette has received numerous accolades, including being named one of Food and Wine magazine’s Best New Restaurants of 2019 and winning the James Beard Award for Best New Restaurant.
While the food was generally fine, we found the lobster to be tough and disappointing. The service was also somewhat abrupt and off-putting. However, others have reported vastly different dining experiences here, so I encourage you to give it a shot and let me know what you think!
Upland: California Cool in the Flatiron District
Upland offers a California-inspired dining experience in the Flatiron District.

Known for its burgers, Upland offers so much more! The vibe is casual, a mix of hip California and buttoned-up East Coast.
The staff is warm and attentive, making you feel right at home. Don’t miss the Bucatini Cacio e Pepe and the Shrimp + Rice – both are exceptional!
NYC Nightlife: Where to Drink
Gallow Green: Rooftop Garden Oasis
Gallow Green is a lush rooftop bar located at the top of The McKittrick Hotel in Chelsea.

This rooftop garden setting offers a breath of fresh air amidst the bustling city. Order the Sleep No More cocktail and enjoy tuna crudo or an artisanal cheese board.
Petrarca: A Tribeca Wine Bar
Petrarca Cucina e Vino is a cozy wine bar and restaurant in the heart of Tribeca.

This family-run restaurant and wine bar offers a stellar wine selection and classic Italian dishes. I highly recommend enjoying lunch or dinner here.
