Portland, Oregon, is renowned as a craft beer mecca and an outdoor enthusiast’s paradise. It’s no wonder that countless entertainment options blend these two passions seamlessly, offering both locals and visitors a taste of the city’s unique culture.

The BrewBarge PDX stands out as a premier choice for combining relaxation and recreation. Their slogan perfectly encapsulates the experience: “Drink, Pedal, Repeat. The Most Portland Thing You Could Possibly Do.” It truly captures the essence of what makes Portland so special.

Recently, my husband and I embarked on our own BrewBarge adventure. We spent an incredible afternoon cruising the Willamette River, basking in the warm sunshine, sipping on refreshing beers, pedaling along the water, and forging new friendships. It was an experience we wouldn’t trade for the world.

Why Choose BrewBarge PDX for Your Portland Adventure?

BrewBarge PDX is a proud member of the BrewGroup family, sister to the popular BrewCycle PDX, and owned by the inspiring local entrepreneur, Andrea Lins. Her vision has created a truly unique and enjoyable experience for Portlanders and visitors alike.

The concept is simple yet brilliant: you’re on a barge, enjoying your favorite beer (or other beverage of choice – we’ll delve into that shortly), gently gliding along the Willamette River, and soaking in the stunning views of the Portland skyline. It’s a truly immersive way to experience the city.

Whether you choose to book the entire boat for a private event, gather a group of friends for a memorable outing, plan a unique date, or even embark on a solo adventure, the BrewBarge welcomes you. As long as there are a minimum of 8 people and a maximum of 14 people per ride, the BrewBarge is ready to set sail and create unforgettable memories.

What truly sets the BrewBarge apart and infuses it with that distinct Portland vibe is the pedaling aspect.

Portland embraces its love for cycling, and the BrewBarge takes that passion to the water. Why not pedal on a boat while enjoying a refreshing drink and soaking in the scenery? It’s the quintessential Portland experience.

The BrewBarge features eight seats positioned along the central bar area, complete with pedals. You and your fellow BrewBarge adventurers can pedal as much or as little as you desire. The captain and their crew (always two experienced staff members on board) can adjust the resistance of the pedals to suit the group’s preferences. Whether you’re looking for a light workout or a leisurely cruise, the BrewBarge caters to all levels of activity.

For those who prefer a more relaxed experience, there are comfortable “lazy person” seats – or, as I like to call them, “chill out and enjoy the view” seats – located at the back of the barge. It’s the perfect spot to kick back, unwind, and take in the breathtaking scenery without breaking a sweat.

My husband and I chose to remain at our pedal seats at the bar throughout the entire ride. We found it to be the most engaging and enjoyable experience. We had the opportunity to chat with the captain and crew, learn more about the BrewBarge, and I personally enjoyed the added bonus of a mini-workout during my day.

The Beer: A Crucial Component of the BrewBarge Experience

Let’s talk about the beer, shall we? After all, it’s a vital element of the BrewBarge experience.

Each guest is permitted to consume up to 36 ounces of alcohol during the 1.5-hour ride. This allows for a responsible and enjoyable experience for everyone on board.

While beer is not included in the price of the ride, you are welcome to bring your own selection of beer or wine. However, the BrewBarge office also boasts an impressive selection of local beers and ciders for purchase, showcasing some of the best craft brews that Portland has to offer. It’s a great opportunity to discover new favorites and support local breweries.

To adhere to the 36-ounce limit, you might consider bringing three 12-ounce cans of beer, cider, or wine, or a 32-ounce growler. Alternatively, you can bring a 64-ounce growler and share it with a friend. The BrewBarge provides plastic cups for transferring beverages from glass containers, ensuring a safe and convenient experience.

The center bar serves as a convenient cooler, keeping your drinks refreshingly cold throughout the duration of the trip. You can relax and enjoy your beverages without worrying about them getting warm in the sun.

Bridges: A Defining Feature of the Portland BrewBarge Experience

Beyond the beer and the logistics, one of the most significant and unforgettable aspects of the BrewBarge experience is the unparalleled, stunning view of the city along the ride. It’s a perspective you simply can’t get anywhere else.

Portland is affectionately nicknamed “Bridgetown,” and for good reason. The Willamette River is spanned by twelve (yes, 12!) bridges that connect the east and west sides of the city. Each bridge has its unique architectural style and historical significance, making them captivating landmarks to admire.

Depending on the energy of your group, how much pedaling you’re up for, and the overall vibe of the ride, you can expect to cruise underneath three to five different bridges before circling back to the dock. It’s a fantastic opportunity to appreciate the city’s infrastructure and learn about its history.

Along your journey, you’ll exchange waves with sailing enthusiasts, sunbathers soaking up the rays, jet skiers showing off their skills, and guests on jet boat excursions who are trying to smile at you while simultaneously squinting to protect their eyes from the splashing water. It’s all part of the vibrant tapestry of life on the Willamette River.

You’ll pedal along to your favorite playlist, whether it’s from your phone or someone else’s, occasionally taking a break to relax and soak in the atmosphere. Remember, this is a fun and leisurely ride, not a competitive cycling event. You might even find yourself learning more than you bargained for about your new BrewBarge companions.

Ultimately, it’s an experience that’s guaranteed to be a blast!

It’s an ideal activity for birthdays, bridal showers, anniversaries, and company team-building events. The BrewBarge caters to all occasions and provides a fun and engaging environment for creating lasting memories.

The dedicated and enthusiastic BrewBarge crew is committed to ensuring that you have a safe, happy, and enjoyable time on board. During our ride, we were fortunate enough to share the barge with a lively birthday party group who were incredibly friendly and fun-loving. It added an extra layer of excitement to the experience, and we had an absolutely fantastic time!
