Why This Fireball Cupcake Recipe Works

This Fireball Cupcake recipe is a guaranteed success! Here’s why you’ll love making and eating these boozy delights:
- Easy to Make: The instructions are straightforward, making it accessible even for novice bakers. I’ve included detailed step-by-step photos and directions in this post, along with a simplified recipe card at the end.
- Simple Ingredients: Aside from the Fireball, readily available at your local liquor store, all other ingredients can be found at your regular grocery store.
- Perfectly Balanced Flavor: The combination of Fireball and cinnamon provides a wonderful, well-balanced flavor. The cinnamon whiskey is present, but doesn’t overwhelm the cupcake.
- Pure Fun: These cupcakes bring a whole new level of fun to your dessert spread! They’re a delightful and unexpected alternative to ordinary vanilla or chocolate cupcakes.
- Adults Only: These are alcohol-infused cupcakes, making them a special treat for adults-only gatherings.
Key Ingredient Notes for Fireball Cupcakes
The precise measurements and a comprehensive list of ingredients can be found in the recipe card below. However, let’s take a closer look at some of the key components.

All-Purpose Flour: I used all-purpose flour for this cupcake recipe. I haven’t tested this recipe with any other types of flour. If you decide to experiment with an alternative flour, I encourage you to share your results in the comments below!
Fireball Cinnamon Whisky: This popular cinnamon-flavored whisky liqueur is widely available in liquor stores across the United States. Feel free to substitute another cinnamon-flavored whiskey, such as Jim Beam Kentucky Fire or Jack Daniels Tennessee Fire. If you’d prefer an alcohol-free version, consider creating a Simple Syrup infused with cinnamon sticks to capture that warm cinnamon essence.
Heavy Cream or Milk: Using heavy cream or milk instead of vegetable oil is key to creating incredibly moist cupcakes.
Unsalted Butter: Be sure to use unsalted butter that has been softened to room temperature for optimal blending.
Large Eggs: Like the butter, allow your large eggs to sit at room temperature for approximately 30 minutes to an hour before starting the cupcake batter. Room-temperature eggs incorporate more smoothly into the batter.

The above photo displays the ingredients for the cinnamon buttercream frosting. In my experience, a buttercream frosting complements these cupcakes more effectively than a cream cheese frosting.
As with the cupcake batter, ensure your unsalted butter is at room temperature before you begin making the buttercream. This is critical for a smooth and creamy frosting.
If desired, you can add a splash of Fireball to the buttercream while it’s mixing. But be careful not to add too much, or the frosting may become too thin.
Step-by-Step Instructions for Perfect Fireball Cupcakes

- Begin by preheating your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two muffin pans with 16 cupcake liners and set them aside. If you only have one muffin pan, you’ll need to work in two batches.

Making the Cupcakes
- In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, baking powder, cinnamon, and salt until thoroughly combined.
- In the bowl of a stand mixer (or a separate large bowl using a hand mixer), beat the softened butter on medium speed until it becomes light and creamy, approximately 2 minutes. Gradually add the sugar and continue beating until the mixture is light and fluffy, about 3 to 4 minutes. This step is crucial for incorporating air into the batter, which will result in a lighter cupcake.

- Gradually add the eggs to the butter and sugar mixture, incorporating one egg at a time. Then, pour in the Fireball and vanilla extract.
- Slowly add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, alternating with the milk or cream, mixing until just combined. Be careful not to overmix, as this can lead to tough cupcakes.

- Using a cookie scoop, portion out the batter and fill each prepared cupcake liner approximately ¾ of the way full. This will allow room for the cupcakes to rise without overflowing.
- Bake the cupcakes at 375°F (190°C) for the first 5 minutes. Baking at this higher temperature initially helps to create a taller, more domed cupcake top. After 5 minutes, reduce the oven temperature to 350°F (175°C) and continue baking for an additional 18-22 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
- Remove the cupcakes from the oven and let them cool in the muffin pan for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting.
Making the Buttercream Frosting
- In the bowl of a stand mixer or a large bowl using a hand mixer, beat the softened butter until creamy and smooth. Gradually add the powdered sugar, one cup at a time, beating well after each addition. Then, add the cinnamon and mix until just combined.
- Pour in the heavy cream, Fireball, and vanilla extract and beat until the frosting is light, fluffy, and well combined.
- Transfer the frosting to a piping bag fitted with an extra-large round tip or a decorative tip of your choice. Once the cupcakes have cooled completely, pipe the frosting on top and garnish with sprinkles, if desired.
Enjoy your delicious and boozy Fireball Cupcakes!
