Ponzi Vineyards: A Legacy of Oregon Wine

Experience the Timeless Charm of Ponzi Winery: A Must-Visit Destination in Oregon Wine Country

In the dynamic world of wine, where new ventures and collaborations abound, there’s a distinct pleasure in witnessing a classic establishment like Ponzi Winery continue to thrive and unveil captivating new spaces. Since 1970, Ponzi wines have graced the tables of Oregon’s finest restaurants, filled homes with warmth, and become an integral part of countless tourist itineraries. Recently, Ponzi opened its doors to its newest location: the stunning Ponzi Vineyards Winery nestled in Sherwood, Oregon. As dedicated Cellar Club members, my husband and I were privileged to attend the grand opening event, marking the debut of this breathtaking space perched atop the picturesque Chehalem Mountains.

A Grand Celebration: The Ponzi Winery Grand Opening

The grand opening was a delightful affair, where we, alongside fellow Cellar Club members, savored winemaker Luisa Ponzi’s exceptional 2008 Cin Cin, a limited-edition Brute Rose that perfectly complemented the balmy summer evening. We had the distinct honor of hearing from Founder Dick Ponzi and his daughter, Maria Ponzi, Director of Marketing, who shared insights into the new facility and its vision. A tour of the expansive winery and the exquisitely designed tasting room followed, leaving us in awe of the attention to detail and commitment to quality.

FOODIE MOMENT: Planning a wine event? You can’t go wrong with classic crostini topped with smoked salmon, crème fraiche, caviar, and chives. In my opinion, it’s the epitome of elegant entertaining.

Discover the New Tasting Room: An Ambiance of Sophistication and Comfort

If you’ve previously visited Ponzi’s Historic Estate in Beaverton, you’re already acquainted with the meticulous care that the Ponzi family invests in every aspect of their spaces. The new Ponzi Vineyard Winery, a testament to their dedication, was meticulously designed by Brett Folgelstrom of Fogelstrom Design Build Co., who is also Maria Ponzi’s husband. This stunning space encompasses the winemaking facility, administrative offices, and the inviting tasting room.

In addition to the extensive wine selection, the new tasting room also offers an assorted antipasti plate for $15, providing a delightful complement to your wine tasting experience.

The Heart of Ponzi: Exceptional Wines

When introducing someone to the distinctive character of Oregon Pinot Noirs, I invariably recommend the 2009 Ponzi Pinot Noir Reserve or the 2010 Ponzi 10th Anniversary Pinot Noir Reserve. In my opinion, Ponzi Pinots embody the true essence of Oregon Pinot Noir.

Their white wine offerings are equally impressive. The 2012 Pinot Gris is a perfect choice for summer picnics, and at $17 per bottle, it’s an exceptional value. The Ponzi 2012 Pinot Blanc, priced at $20 per bottle, is another excellent summer wine. Following the Cellar Club gathering, my husband and I indulged in a bottle of the Ponzi 2012 Pinot Blanc on the patio, reveling in the stunning views from the sunny north slope.
