Why This Turkey Pesto Sandwich Recipe Works

I’m a bit of a sandwich snob, to be honest. That’s why you won’t find a huge array of random sandwich recipes here. If I’m going to share a sandwich recipe, it has to be truly exceptional – genuinely amazing!
And this Turkey Pesto Sandwich is absolutely worthy of sharing with the world! Here’s why:
- It’s quick and easy to make, taking only about 10-15 minutes.
- You can use all store-bought ingredients for super-fast assembly.
- Alternatively, you can use your own homemade pesto and homemade bread if you prefer a truly artisanal experience.
- The sun-dried tomatoes and fresh basil add a delightful Italian flair to this panini-style sandwich.
- You can make this sandwich with or without a panini press. Check out the FAQs below for instructions.
Ingredients for the Perfect Turkey Pesto Sandwich

You’ll need the ingredients pictured above to make this fantastic sandwich. Here are a few key notes:
Ciabatta Bread: After experimenting, I’ve found that ciabatta bread is the best choice for this Turkey Pesto Sandwich. It offers a nice, crisp outer crust that gets beautifully crispy when buttered and pressed in a panini press. Plus, it’s not overly thick, making it easy to eat. Of course, you can always use your favorite sandwich bread.
If you’re making mini Turkey Pesto Sliders for Game Day or another party, use slider rolls like the ones pictured in the upper right corner of the photo.
Pesto: You can use store-bought pesto or make your own! We always have an abundance of fresh herbs from the garden, and pesto is one of our favorite ways to use them. Consider trying my Spinach Pesto, Mint Pesto, Avocado Pesto, or Carrot Top Pesto recipe for a unique twist.
Step-by-Step Instructions for a Delicious Turkey Pesto Sandwich

- Slice each ciabatta roll in half horizontally.
- Spread half of the pesto on the bottom half of one roll and the other half of the pesto on the bottom half of the other roll.

- Top each of the bottom halves of the sandwiches with 4-5 slices of turkey.
- Top each with 2 slices of provolone cheese.

- Spoon about ¼ cup of sun-dried tomatoes onto each half sandwich. Make sure they are well-drained to avoid a soggy sandwich.
- Place 2 to 4 fresh basil leaves on top of the sun-dried tomatoes on each half. The basil adds a wonderful aromatic element.

- Top each with the remaining top half of the ciabatta rolls. Brush melted butter over the tops of each sandwich roll for a golden-brown finish.
- Brush the inside of a panini press with olive oil or use cooking spray. Place one sandwich onto the press (or both if there is room), then press the top down and cook on medium-high heat for about 4 to 5 minutes, or until the cheese melts and the tops are golden brown and crispy.
Slice each sandwich in half and serve immediately. Enjoy your delicious Turkey Pesto Sandwich!
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) About Turkey Pesto Sandwiches

Can I make this Turkey Pesto Sandwich without a panini press?
Absolutely! If you don’t have a panini press, simply place the assembled sandwiches on a hot skillet over medium-high heat with a little bit of olive oil. Use another heavy-bottomed pot or pan to place on top of the sandwich to press down on it, mimicking the action of a panini press. Watch the sandwiches carefully and cook until the cheese starts to melt and the bread is golden brown.
What’s the best way to store and reheat this sandwich?
Leftovers can be stored in foil or in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days. To reheat, place the sandwich in an air fryer and air fry at 350°F (175°C) for about 2 minutes, just until the sandwich is heated through and the bread is crispy again.
Kitchen Tools and Equipment You’ll Need
While you can make this sandwich without one, a panini press definitely makes the process easier and creates a perfectly pressed sandwich.
I also recommend using a large basting brush to brush the melted butter onto the tops of the sandwiches before pressing. Silicone brushes are easier to clean than bristle brushes.
Serving Ideas for Your Turkey Pesto Sandwich

I love making these sandwiches for lunch – they’re hearty, satisfying, and provide the energy I need to power through the rest of the workday. But they’re also fantastic for a quick and easy family dinner!
Serve these sandwiches with a side of Air Fryer Broccoli or a Simple Fruit Salad for a complete and balanced meal.
Serving them for Game Day eats? Use the same ingredients, but swap out the ciabatta bread for cute little slider rolls and make Turkey Pesto Sliders (see photo above for inspiration). Round out the spread with some Air Fryer Corn Ribs, Buffalo Chicken Bites, chips with Dairy-Free Creamy Queso Dip, and Crispy Air Fryer Cauliflower Bites.
