Essential Kitchen Tools
You don’t need fancy equipment to make these pizza cups. Just a few basic kitchen tools will do:
- A sharp knife and/or a handy pastry scraper for cutting the dough.
- A reliable 12-cup muffin tin to bake the pizza cups in.
- A sturdy cutting board for preparing your ingredients.
And of course, you’ll need a set of measuring cups and measuring spoons to ensure accurate ingredient measurements.
Simple Ingredients for Maximum Flavor

One of the best things about this recipe is that it’s not only super easy to make but also requires five ingredients or less! That’s right, you can create a delicious and satisfying snack or meal with just a handful of simple ingredients.
Here’s what you’ll need to make these amazing pizza cups:
- Pizza Dough: You can use either homemade pizza dough or a tube of prepared pizza crust. While I love our homemade dough recipe, I often opt for the convenience of store-bought pizza crust in a tube for this recipe.
- Pizza Sauce: Choose your favorite! You can use your own homemade pizza sauce or a store-bought pizza sauce.
- Pepperoni: I like to cut the pepperoni into quarters, but you can also cut them in half or leave them whole, depending on your preference.
- Mozzarella Cheese: Shredded mozzarella cheese is the classic choice for pizza.
Step-by-Step Instructions: Making Your Pizza Cups
Follow these simple steps to create your own batch of delicious pepperoni pizza cups:
- Preheat: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Generously spray a 12-cup muffin pan with nonstick cooking spray to prevent the pizza cups from sticking.
- Prepare the Dough: Unroll the pizza dough. Using a knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough into 12 equal squares.

- Fill the Cups: Place one square of dough into each muffin cup. Use your fingers to gently press the dough to fit into the bottom and up the sides of the cup.

- Add Toppings: Spoon a generous spoonful of pizza sauce into each pizza cup, followed by a sprinkle of mozzarella cheese. Arrange the pepperoni slices on top of the cheese.

- Bake: Place the muffin pan in the preheated oven and bake for 18 to 22 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the filling is hot and bubbly.
- Cool and Serve: Allow the pizza cups to cool slightly in the pan before carefully tipping them out and serving.

Frequently Asked Questions About Pizza Cups

- Can I use crescent dough instead of pizza dough?
- I haven’t tried this substitution, so I cannot say for sure that the cook times and ratios will stay the same. However, they are similar in terms of ingredients, so if you do try it, please let me know how it goes!
- How do I make this dairy-free?
- I usually make a couple of pizza cups dairy-free for myself, and it’s fairly easy. Simply substitute the mozzarella cheese with your favorite dairy-free mozzarella shreds alternative.
- Can I double this recipe?
- Absolutely! Simply double the ingredients and use a second muffin pan to make 24 total pizza cups. If they will fit in your oven side-by-side, bake them that way for more even baking. If they do not, be sure to rotate the pans halfway through the baking time to help each muffin pan of pizza cups bake evenly.
