Summertime calls for carefree get-togethers, where relaxation and rejuvenation are the priorities. While crafting individual cocktails for your guests can be a generous gesture, it can also be time-consuming and keep you tied to the bar.

That’s where the magnificent sangria comes to the rescue!

☀️ The Ultimate Summer Sangria Recipe

Enjoy the vibrant colors and refreshing taste of homemade sangria.

For many years, I mistakenly believed that I didn’t enjoy sangria. However, I’ve since come to realize that it’s simply too easy for people to create subpar versions. Often, individuals will use a red or white wine that they don’t particularly like, hoping that mixing it with fruit and sparkling water will somehow magically improve its taste.

Unfortunately, that’s not how it works. As the saying goes, “garbage in, garbage out.” If you begin with low-quality ingredients, the resulting dish or cocktail will inevitably be of poor quality as well.

Therefore, when preparing sangria, similar to when using wine in cooking, it’s crucial to select a wine that you genuinely enjoy drinking. Your choice of wine will significantly impact the final flavor profile, so opt for one that you find palatable on its own.

🍷 Choosing the Perfect Wine for Your Summer Cocktail

This tropical sangria recipe calls for rosé wine, which offers a more forgiving flavor profile when combined with other ingredients. While I still recommend using a rosé wine that you enjoy, it doesn’t have to be your absolute favorite or the most expensive bottle on the shelf. Look for a rosé that complements the tropical fruit flavors without overpowering them.

Opt for a rosé wine with a lighter pink hue rather than a richer, deeper rose color. In my experience, Rosé of Pinot Noir wines work exceptionally well in this recipe. Their delicate fruit notes and crisp acidity harmonize beautifully with the other ingredients. Some of my current favorite rosé wines that would be ideal for this sangria include:

  • La Vieille Ferme Rosé – A widely available and affordable option with a refreshing character.
  • Stoller Wine Rosé – Offers a more complex flavor profile with notes of citrus and berries.
  • Chateau de Campuget Rosé – A slightly more upscale choice with a refined and elegant taste.

🍹 How to Make the Best Tropical Sangria

Freshly sliced tropical fruits add vibrant flavor to this refreshing sangria.

The beauty of sangria lies in its simplicity. With just a few steps, you can create a beverage that’s both impressive and incredibly easy to make.

  1. Start with a bottle of your chosen rosé wine and pour it into a large pitcher. A pitcher with a generous capacity is essential for accommodating all the ingredients and allowing them to meld together properly.
  2. Add a splash of sparkling water and a generous pour of your favorite juice. For this tropical version, mango juice is a fantastic choice, complementing the fruit flavors beautifully.
  3. Sprinkle in the magic of fresh fruit! Pineapple, strawberries, and raspberries create a vibrant and flavorful combination. Chill the mixture in the refrigerator for several hours, allowing the flavors to infuse and deepen.

Hours later, or even the next day, you can pour this liquid bliss into glasses for your friends and family. Then, sit back, relax, and enjoy their company instead of being a slave to the bar all night. Sangria allows you to be a gracious host while still enjoying the party.

Equipment

  • Large pitcher

Ingredients

  • 1 bottle (750 ml) your favorite rosé wine
  • 2 cans (12 ounce) blood orange sparkling water
  • 1 bottle (32 ounce) mango juice

  • ½ cup raspberries, divided
  • ice (optional)
  • mint leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Pour the bottle of rosé, the mango or guava juice, and the sparkling water into a large pitcher. Add 3/4 of the sliced or chunks of pineapple, strawberries, and raspberries. Set aside the remaining fruit in a refrigerator-safe container or plastic bag. Place the pitcher of sangria into the refrigerator and chill in the refrigerator overnight, or for at least 6 hours.
  • When ready to serve, use the remaining fruit pieces as garnish on the rim of each glass. Add some ice cubes if it’s a really hot day. Add a mint leaf as garnish to each glass if you wish. Cheers!

Substitution suggestions:
