Despite living in Oregon for most of my life, I had never experienced the Mount Hood Railroad until recently. My husband and I had the pleasure of enjoying a delightful afternoon aboard the Mount Hood Railroad Champagne Brunch Train, a perfect mid-day date that exceeded all expectations.

From June through October, the Mount Hood Railroad offers a unique and luxurious experience: the four-hour Champagne Brunch Train. This scenic ride allows you to savor exquisite cuisine while immersing yourself in the beauty of the Oregon countryside. Departing from the Hood River, Oregon, rail station every Sunday from 11:30 am to 3:15 pm, the train makes a 30-minute stop in Parkdale, Oregon, before returning to its origin.

The Champagne Brunch Train offers three classes of service: Standard, First, and Diamond. We were fortunate enough to experience the Diamond Class, which includes a delectable three-course brunch meal and a complimentary glass of champagne. The Mount Hood Railroad truly provides an unforgettable experience for its passengers.

The brunch begins with a delightful assortment of fresh fruit and pastries. Passengers in First Class and Diamond Class receive a complimentary glass of champagne or sparkling cider with their ticket. Additional champagne, cocktails, beer, and wine are also available for purchase, allowing you to customize your beverage experience.

After the train departs, the main course is served. My husband thoroughly enjoyed the fresh apple crepes with a luscious fruit berry compote. The aroma alone was enough to make my mouth water!

When booking your tickets online in advance, you can conveniently place your brunch order. The Mount Hood Railroad is dedicated to accommodating dietary restrictions, so be sure to inform them of any specific needs when making your reservation. The staff is incredibly accommodating and strives to ensure that every passenger has a delightful dining experience. For example, I cannot consume dairy or eggs, and one of our fellow passengers had Celiac disease, requiring a gluten-free meal.

I opted for the pork dish with a side salad instead of eggs, due to my dietary restrictions. The pork was cooked to perfection and the salad was crisp and refreshing, making for a satisfying and delicious meal.

The third course, dessert, is a delightful surprise that varies depending on the season and availability of ingredients. You can expect to be treated to a sweet and satisfying finale to your brunch experience, showcasing the best of Oregon’s local produce.

The train makes a stop in Parkdale, Oregon, a charming town nestled near Mount Hood. During this 45-minute break, you have the opportunity to explore local attractions such as the Hutson Museum. We chose to spend our time at Solera Brewery, a local microbrewery known for its handcrafted beers.

Solera Brewery is a family-friendly establishment with a selection of approximately eight beers on tap. During our visit, they also offered Anthem Cider, a local favorite from Salem, Oregon. With a variety of their own brews and guest taps from Washington, Solera Brewery provides a diverse and enjoyable tasting experience.

Remember to keep an eye on the time, as you don’t want to miss the train’s departure. The return journey is just as relaxing and scenic as the ride to Parkdale. The Mount Hood Railroad offers a unique perspective of the region, allowing you to see areas that are not accessible by car. We are incredibly fortunate to live in a state with such natural beauty and abundant resources. The apple orchards, with Mount Hood as a majestic backdrop, create a truly unforgettable landscape.

Overall, our experience on the Mount Hood Railroad Champagne Brunch Train was delightful and memorable. A trip on the Mount Hood Railroad makes a wonderful gift for parents, grandparents, aunts, and uncles. It’s also a fantastic excursion for relatives visiting from out of town. On our particular trip, the majority of passengers were older couples or groups of friends, suggesting that it’s a popular choice for those seeking a relaxing and sophisticated outing.

In addition to the Champagne Brunch Train, the Mount Hood Railroad offers other exciting excursions, including a Western Train Robbery ride and a Timber Baron Dinner Train featuring a murder mystery show. Both of these experiences are available through October 31st. During November and December, families can enjoy the Polar Express Train, a popular and enchanting experience for children.
