Ingredient Spotlight: What You’ll Need

Ingredients for Lobster Ravioli Sauce.
A beautiful arrangement of fresh ingredients ready to be transformed into a flavorful lobster ravioli sauce.

Ravioli: While homemade lobster ravioli is always an option, this recipe shines with fresh, store-bought lobster-filled ravioli. You can typically find these packages in the refrigerated pasta section of most grocery stores.

Lobster Meat: Leftover lobster meat, cooked from lobster tails (consider using my Air Fryer Lobster Tail recipe), works perfectly. Alternatively, purchase cooked lobster meat from your local grocery store. If using frozen lobster, ensure it’s fully thawed overnight in the refrigerator before cooking.

Aromatic Foundation: Fresh minced garlic and finely diced shallots create the flavor base for this incredible lobster ravioli sauce. While you can substitute yellow onion for shallots, the subtle sweetness of shallots truly elevates the dish.

Herbs, Spices, and Seasonings: This recipe calls for a blend of fresh or dried basil and dill, along with Old Bay Seasoning and ground paprika. Although Old Bay Seasoning contains paprika, adding a touch more paprika enhances the sauce’s flavor and color.

Creamy Indulgence: To create the perfect cream sauce, you’ll need heavy cream, dry white wine, olive oil, butter, and grated Parmesan cheese. If you prefer to avoid alcohol, you can substitute chicken stock for the wine.

For a final touch of freshness, garnish with chopped parsley, fresh chives, lemon wedges or lemon zest, and/or thinly sliced fresh basil. A squeeze of fresh lemon juice right before serving adds a delightful burst of zing!

Dairy-Free Adaptation

To make this recipe dairy-free, simply substitute your favorite dairy-free heavy cream, vegan butter, and dairy-free grated Parmesan cheese.

Prep Time: 10 mins
Cook Time: 20 mins
Total Time: 30 mins
Servings: 4

Ingredients

  • 1 Tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 Tablespoon unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces lobster meat
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 shallot, finely diced
  • 1 teaspoon thinly sliced fresh basil (or 1 teaspoon dried basil), divided
  • ½ teaspoon dried dill
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • ½ cup grated parmesan cheese, divided
  • 1 teaspoon Old Bay Seasoning
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • 1 package (12-13 ounces) lobster ravioli
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • ½ teaspoon ground black pepper
  • fresh chopped parsley for garnish, lemon wedges or slices for serving

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan, heat the butter and oil over medium-high heat.
  2. When the butter is nearly melted, add the lobster and cook for about 3 minutes, just until the lobster meat is cooked through. Then transfer the lobster meat to a bowl or plate and set aside.
  3. Lower the heat to medium, then add the garlic and shallots to the pan and sauté for 2 minutes, just until they are soft and fragrant.
  4. Add half of the basil and all of the dill; stir.
  5. Slowly pour in the dry white wine and cook for 1-2 minutes, stirring regularly.
  6. Slowly pour in the heavy cream and stir together. Then add half of the grated parmesan, stir and cook until the parmesan is melted into the sauce.
  7. Lower the heat to low-medium and add the Old Bay Seasoning, paprika, salt, and pepper. Stir, and cook for about 8-10 minutes, until the sauce has thickened up a bit.
  8. While the sauce is thickening, boil water in a large pot and cook the ravioli according to package instructions. Usually, the ravioli is cooked in about 4-5 minutes.
  9. Using a slotted spoon or kitchen spider, transfer the cooked ravioli to the pan with the sauce and stir to coat the ravioli. Add back the cooked lobster meat.
  10. Season with salt and pepper. Serve with the remaining grated parmesan, fresh basil, chopped parsley, and lemon wedges or slices.

Notes

  • Makes 3-4 servings
  • Make it dairy-free: Substitute the heavy cream and grated parmesan cheese with your favorite dairy-free or non-dairy cream/half and half and dairy-free or non-dairy grated parmesan.
  • Storage: Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. To reheat, add a bit of olive oil, water, or butter and then reheat either on the stovetop on medium heat or in the microwave. The added liquid helps revive the sauce when reheated.
